Week 1

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself. A mentor is someone who allows you to know that no matter how dark the night, in the morning joy will come. A mentor is someone who allows you to see the higher part of yourself when sometimes it becomes hidden to your own view.”

— Oprah Winfrey

What is the Mentorship Program?

It is an initiative by Women Who Code Delhi, serves as a platform to connect undergraduate women in STEM fields to women leaders in technology with an objective of furthering their professional development, expanding their professional network and gaining support in the field and their workplace.

It is a 5 week program with an agenda for each week. Each mentor is assigned 3 mentees. Each week, each mentee has at least one call with their mentor, who will answer her questions and assign simple tasks in accordance with the agenda of that week. The agenda is flexible and can be changed as per mentees requirements.

I came to know about this program through LinkedIn and would like to thank Women Who Code Delhi for this opportunity. The Week 1 of the Mentorship program 3.0 started in February 2021. I had three other mentees along with me, and my mentor is Mansi Breja.

Mansi recently completed her graduation in Computer Engineering from NSIT, Delhi and is currently working as an Analyst at a global financial services firm in Bengaluru. She has a bubbly personality and loves to organize events and programs.

In the first week of the five-week mentorship, we introduced ourselves to the team. We also made our mentor, Mansi, aware of our goals and aspirations, what we want to achieve, what all we are expecting from this and what kind of help we need. Mansi has chosen a flexible agenda for us to follow so that all our needs are seen and accounted for.

In the first week, I was given 2 tasks:

  1. To look up for post graduate/ master courses abroad
  2. To search some startups I would like to intern/work with.

It was a great week as I felt I had been a little more productive than usual. Also, the other mentees, Shivani and Pooja are really great and helpful, and we bonded with each other a little.

Looking forward to the next session.
